Will vote against delimitation: INDIA bloc

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge reiterates Opposition’s stance that it is not against women’s reservation, but will not allow delimitation provisions to pass

The INDIA bloc parties took a unanimous decision to vote against the delimitation provisions in the Constitution (131st) Amendment Bill, 2026, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said at the end of a meeting of the alliance on Tuesday (April 13, 2026), adding the Opposition is not against reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies.

According to multiple members who attended the meeting both in person and online, the Trinamool Congress conveyed that not all its MPs might be able to be present at Parliament, drawing criticism from the members. Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said their absence “will help the BJP”.
